    Practice Forgiving Someone in Chinese

A beginner speaking workshop on offering and accepting forgiveness in Chinese, using recorded lines for guided exchange, listening choice, and role recall.

Free lesson path Phrase audioNo sign-up needed

This workshop helps you speak about forgiveness in Chinese with a calm, respectful tone. You will practice offering forgiveness, accepting an apology, and talking about rebuilding trust. Each native line is recorded, so listen first, then repeat. The goal is not to memorize a script but to become comfortable saying these ideas in your own voice. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so check your answers with the keys provided.

    Offering and Accepting Forgiveness

When someone apologizes, you can respond with a simple statement of forgiveness. The recorded line «我原谅你。» means "I forgive you." It is direct and warm. If you want to move forward without dwelling on the past, you can say «我们让这件事过去吧。», which means "Let's move past this." This is a gentle way to close the topic. Another option is «我愿意再给你一次机会。», meaning "I'm willing to give you another chance." This shows openness but does not promise instant trust. You can also add a note about time by saying «信任需要时间重建。», which means "Trust takes time to rebuild." Together, these lines let you forgive while being honest about the process.

A Short Exchange About Apology and Trust

In a longer conversation, one person apologizes and the other responds. Speaker A says «对不起,我上次不该对你撒谎。», which means "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have lied to you last time." Speaker B replies with «我原谅你。但是信任需要时间重建。», meaning "I forgive you. But trust takes time to rebuild." Speaker A then says «我明白。我愿意用行动证明。», which means "I understand. I'm willing to prove it through my actions." Finally, Speaker B says «好,我们让这件事过去吧。我希望我们能重新信任彼此。», meaning "Okay, let's move past this. I hope we can trust each other again." Notice how the apology comes first, then forgiveness, then a commitment, and finally a hopeful close. The order matters: the request for forgiveness comes before the response.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided Exchange: Apology and Forgiveness

You will play both roles in a short exchange. First, listen to the recording for Speaker A's apology. Then listen to Speaker B's reply. Repeat each line after the audio, matching the tone.

Your task: Play the audio for «对不起,我上次不该对你撒谎。» and repeat it as Speaker A. Then play «我原谅你。但是信任需要时间重建。» and repeat it as Speaker B. Next, play «我明白。我愿意用行动证明。» and repeat it as Speaker A. Finally, play «好,我们让这件事过去吧。我希望我们能重新信任彼此。» and repeat it as Speaker B. Do the whole sequence twice, keeping the same order.

    2

Listening Choice: What Does the Reply Mean?

You will hear a short reply and choose its meaning. This checks whether you understand the response to an apology.

Your task: Listen to «我原谅你。但是信任需要时间重建。». Then choose the best meaning: (a) I forgive you, but trust takes time to rebuild. (b) I do not forgive you. (c) You should apologize again. After choosing, listen to «好,我们让这件事过去吧。我希望我们能重新信任彼此。» and choose its meaning: (a) Let's move past this and hope for trust again. (b) We should stop talking. (c) I will never trust you. Check your answers below.

    3

    Recall with Correct Roles

Now you will recall the exchange from memory, keeping the correct roles. Speaker A apologizes first. Speaker B responds with forgiveness and a note about trust. Then A commits to proving it through actions. Finally, B closes with hope.

Your task: Without playing the audio, say the four lines in order. Use «对不起,我上次不该对你撒谎。» for A, «我原谅你。但是信任需要时间重建。» for B, «我明白。我愿意用行动证明。» for A, and «好,我们让这件事过去吧。我希望我们能重新信任彼此。» for B. If you cannot recall a line, replay that recording once, then continue from where you left off. Do not change the order.

    Common questions

Can I use these lines if I am the one who made a mistake?

Yes. If you are apologizing, you can use «对不起,我上次不该对你撒谎。» as your apology. If the other person forgives you, you can respond with «我明白。我愿意用行动证明。» to show you understand and are willing to prove it through your actions. The roles are flexible, but the order stays the same: apology first, then forgiveness, then commitment.

What if I want to forgive someone but also need time?

You can combine forgiveness with honesty about time. Say «我原谅你。» to forgive, then add «信任需要时间重建。» to explain that trust takes time to rebuild. This is a clear and respectful way to forgive without promising instant trust.
