Agreeing in Chinese is not one phrase. You can sound fully on board, simply agreeable, mildly convinced, or unsure. This workshop uses short recorded lines so you can hear the difference and then practice choosing the right level for a situation. You will read both parts of a restaurant conversation, check what a reply really means, and then recall the lines with the roles swapped.

    Four Levels of Agreement

Start by listening to the strength of each reply. «我完全同意。» is the strongest: it means you fully agree, with no reservation. «我同意。» is a plain, neutral agreement: you agree, but without extra emphasis. «我想是吧。» is weaker: it means something like I suppose so, suggesting you are not fully enthusiastic. «也许吧。» is the most hesitant: it means maybe, so you are not committing to agreement. Notice that these are not just different words for the same feeling. They move from full support to doubt, and choosing the wrong one can change how your answer sounds.

    Agreement Inside a Conversation

Agreement usually answers an opinion, not a direct question about facts. In the recorded exchange, one speaker gives an opinion about a restaurant: «这家餐厅的菜很好吃,你觉得呢?». The other speaker responds with strong agreement and adds a specific detail: «我完全同意!特别是那个鱼。». Later, the first speaker suggests a future action: «我们下次再来吧。». This time the reply is more cautious: «我想是吧,如果不太贵的话。». The second speaker agrees in principle but adds a condition about cost. So the same conversation can contain both strong and weak agreement, depending on how sure the speaker feels.

    Choosing the Right Strength

Use «我完全同意。» when you share the other person's opinion completely and want that to be clear. Use «我同意。» when you agree but do not need to sound intense. Use «我想是吧。» when you are willing to go along with something but have doubts. Use «也许吧。» when you are genuinely unsure and do not want to promise agreement. In the recorded exchange, «我完全同意!特别是那个鱼。» fits because the speaker is enthusiastic about the food. «我想是吧,如果不太贵的话。» fits because the speaker is open to returning but worried about price. The strength of your agreement should match your real position.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided Restaurant Agreement

You will read both roles in a short restaurant conversation. One person gives an opinion, and the other agrees strongly and adds a detail.

Your task: Read the first line aloud: «这家餐厅的菜很好吃,你觉得呢?». Then read the reply aloud: «我完全同意!特别是那个鱼。». After that, read the next suggestion aloud: «我们下次再来吧。», and answer it with the cautious reply: «我想是吧,如果不太贵的话。». Read the whole exchange twice, once as the first speaker and once as the second speaker.

    2

    What Does the Reply Mean?

You will hear or read a reply and decide how strong the agreement is. The recorded lines are short, so listen for the level of enthusiasm.

Your task: Look at these four replies: «我完全同意。», «我想是吧。», «也许吧。», and «我完全同意!特别是那个鱼。». Decide which one means full agreement, which one means I suppose so, and which one means maybe. Then imagine someone says the restaurant food is delicious. Choose the reply that fits a person who is enthusiastic and wants to add a detail.

    3

    Recall and Swap Roles

You will recall the restaurant exchange without looking at the lines, then swap roles. The order of the conversation stays the same: opinion, strong reply, suggestion, cautious reply.

Your task: Cover the recorded lines. Say the opinion about the restaurant food from memory. Then give the strong agreement that mentions the fish. Next, say the suggestion about coming again. Finally, give the cautious reply about cost. After that, swap roles: the second speaker now says the opinion and the suggestion, and the first speaker gives the strong and cautious replies.

    Common questions

Can I use the strongest agreement all the time?

No. «我完全同意。» sounds fully committed, so it fits when you really share the other person's opinion. If you have doubts, «我想是吧。» or «也许吧。» is more honest. In the recorded exchange, the speaker uses «我完全同意!特别是那个鱼。» for enthusiasm about the food but «我想是吧,如果不太贵的话。» when cost is a concern.

What should I listen for to tell agreement levels apart?

Listen for how much certainty the speaker shows. «我完全同意。» is the strongest, «我同意。» is neutral, «我想是吧。» suggests mild agreement with doubt, and «也许吧。» is unsure. The recorded restaurant exchange shows both a strong reply and a cautious one, so you can compare them directly.
