In this workshop you practise two short, useful exchanges in Chinese. First you ask whether a gym is nearby and where it is. Then you ask whether a single-entry pass is available and how much it costs. You will hear recorded model lines, work out what each line means, and then say the lines yourself in the right order. You can play both roles, and you should check your answers against the keys given after each task.
Asking whether a gym is nearby
Start with a polite opening. The recorded line «请问,附近有健身房吗?» means "Excuse me, is there a gym nearby?" The first part gets attention, and the rest asks about a gym in the area. A helpful reply is «有,前面就有一家。», which means "Yes, there is one just ahead." Notice that the reply confirms the gym exists and points forward, so it answers the yes-or-no question directly. If you only need the short question, use «附近有健身房吗?», which means "Is there a gym nearby?" Practise saying «请问,附近有健身房吗?» slowly, then answer it with «有,前面就有一家。» as if you were the person giving directions.
Asking where the gym is
When you want a location rather than a yes-or-no answer, use «健身房在哪里?», which means "Where is the gym?" This is a different question from «附近有健身房吗?»: «附近有健身房吗?» asks whether a gym exists nearby, while «健身房在哪里?» asks for its position. In a real exchange, you might first ask «附近有健身房吗?» and, after hearing «有,前面就有一家。», still want more detail, so you ask «健身房在哪里?». Keep the two questions separate in your mind: one checks existence, the other asks for a place. Say «健身房在哪里?» clearly, with a rising question tone at the end.
Asking about a single-entry pass and its price
At the gym, you may want to visit for one entry. The recorded line «有单次票吗?» means "Do you have a single-entry pass?" It asks whether the gym offers this option. A staff reply is «有,单次票五十块。», which means "Yes, a single-entry pass is fifty yuan." That reply both confirms the pass and gives the price. If you want to ask the price directly, use «单次票多少钱?», which means "How much is a single-entry pass?" In the longer recorded exchange, the visitor says «太好了。请问有单次票吗?», which means "Great. Excuse me, do you have a single-entry pass?" The word at the start shows you are pleased with the earlier answer before you ask the next question. Practise «太好了。请问有单次票吗?» as one smooth line, then answer it with «有,单次票五十块。».
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

请问,附近有健身房吗?
Excuse me, is there a gym nearby?有,前面就有一家。
Yes, there is one just ahead.太好了。请问有单次票吗?
Great. Excuse me, do you have a day pass?有,单次票五十块。
Yes, a day pass is fifty yuan.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: find the gym
Imagine you are standing on a street and want to find a gym. You will play the visitor first, then the local person. Use only the recorded lines.
Your task: Say the visitor's opening line «请问,附近有健身房吗?». Then, as the local person, give the reply «有,前面就有一家。». After that, as the visitor, ask the location question «健身房在哪里?». Say each line aloud once, then repeat the whole exchange without looking at the text.
Reply comprehension: choose the right answer
Read the visitor's line and choose the reply that fits. Both options come from the recorded lines, but only one answers the question.
Your task: The visitor says «有单次票吗?», which means "Do you have a single-entry pass?" Which reply fits: «有,单次票五十块。» or «有,前面就有一家。»? Say your chosen reply aloud, then explain in English why the other line does not fit.
Recall with correct roles
This time, work from memory. One person is the visitor and one is the staff member. The visitor asks about a single-entry pass, and the staff member replies.
Your task: The visitor says «太好了。请问有单次票吗?», which means "Great. Excuse me, do you have a single-entry pass?" The staff member answers with «有,单次票五十块。», which means "Yes, a single-entry pass is fifty yuan." Say the visitor's question first, then the staff reply. Then swap roles and say them again, keeping the visitor's question first and the staff reply second.
Common questions
What is the difference between «附近有健身房吗?» and «健身房在哪里?»?
«附近有健身房吗?» means "Is there a gym nearby?" and asks whether a gym exists in the area, so the answer can be yes or no. «健身房在哪里?» means "Where is the gym?" and asks for the gym's location, so it expects a place, not just yes or no.
Can I use «有单次票吗?» and «单次票多少钱?» together?
Yes. «有单次票吗?» means "Do you have a single-entry pass?" and checks whether the option exists. «单次票多少钱?» means "How much is a single-entry pass?" and asks for the price. You can ask «有单次票吗?» first, and if the answer is yes, then ask «单次票多少钱?».
