If you prefer to state your need first, use «我想租一辆车。», which means "I want to rent a car." A polite opening adds an attention-getter before the question: «请问，哪里可以租车？» means "Excuse me, where can I rent a car?" These three lines let you begin the conversation without extra vocabulary. Keep your tone calm and your question clear. When you speak, say the whole line at a natural speed, then repeat it once more while looking at the recording reference. The goal is to make the request understandable on the first try.
Understanding the Reply and Asking for Details
After you ask, listen for a location. «前面路口有一家租车公司。» means "There is a car rental company at the intersection ahead." This tells you where to go. Next, ask about paperwork with «需要什么证件？», which means "What documents are required?" The staff reply «需要驾照和护照。» means "You need a driver's license and passport." If you also need the price, ask «一天多少钱？», which means "How much is it per day?" You can practice the documents question with both the phrase recording and the dialogue recording, since the same line appears in each. In a real exchange, ask one question at a time and wait for the reply before asking the next.

Your task: Traveler, say the polite location question from memory. Staff member, give the location reply from memory. Traveler, ask the documents question from memory. Staff member, list the required documents from memory. Then traveler, ask the price question from memory.
Common questions
Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?
Yes. Play each recording and repeat the line aloud. Then play the next recording and respond with the line that fits the turn. You can speak both roles, but you must check your own answers because there is no automatic assessment.
What should I listen for in the staff replies?
Listen for a location in «前面路口有一家租车公司。» and for documents in «需要驾照和护照。». «前面路口有一家租车公司。» tells you there is a car rental company at the intersection ahead, and «需要驾照和护照。» tells you that you need a driver's license and passport.
