When you look for a place to live, you often need to ask whether the apartment already has furniture and which appliances are included. In this workshop you will practice a short phone-style exchange between a renter and a landlord. You will ask questions, listen to answers, and check that you understood what is and is not provided. The recordings give you clear models for each question and reply, so you can practice both roles without guessing.

Asking whether the apartment is furnished

Start with a general question about furniture. «有家具吗?» means "Is it furnished?" or "Does it have furniture?" A slightly different way to ask the same thing is «带家具吗?», which means "Does it come with furniture?" Both questions are useful when you first contact a landlord. If you want to ask about one specific item, you can use a question like «有床吗?», which means "Is there a bed?" or "Does it have a bed?" Notice that these questions are short and direct. In a real conversation, you can begin with a greeting and then ask the main question, as in «你好,这个房子有家具吗?», which means "Hello, is this apartment furnished?"

    Understanding the landlord's answer

After you ask, listen for the key items. «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。» means "It is furnished. There is a bed, a sofa, and a table." This answer tells you that furniture is included and names three pieces. If you also need appliances, ask a follow-up question. «有洗衣机和空调吗?» means "Is there a washing machine and air conditioning?" The answer in «有空调,没有洗衣机。» means "There is air conditioning, but no washing machine." This kind of reply tells you that one item is available and another is not. When you hear an answer like this, check each item separately so you know exactly what the apartment provides.

    Practicing both roles

You can practice the exchange by reading both parts aloud. First, take the renter's role and ask the questions from «你好,这个房子有家具吗?» and «有洗衣机和空调吗?». Then switch roles and read the landlord's answers from «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。» and «有空调,没有洗衣机。». When you switch, keep the same order: question first, then answer. This helps you get used to the rhythm of a real conversation. You can also use «有家具吗?», «带家具吗?», «有床吗?», and «有洗衣机吗?» to ask about other items. «有洗衣机吗?» means "Is there a washing machine?" Use it when you want to ask about that appliance by itself. Practice saying each question clearly, then listen to the recording and compare your pronunciation.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

    A

    你好,这个房子有家具吗?

    Hello, is this apartment furnished?
    B

    有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。

It is furnished. There is a bed, a sofa, and a table.
    A

    有洗衣机和空调吗?

Is there a washing machine and air conditioning?
    B

    有空调,没有洗衣机。

There is air conditioning, but no washing machine.
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

Guided exchange: renter asks, landlord answers

You are a renter calling about an apartment. Your partner plays the landlord. Use the recordings as your script.

Your task: Read the renter's question from «你好,这个房子有家具吗?». Your partner reads the landlord's answer from «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。». Then read the renter's follow-up question from «有洗衣机和空调吗?», and your partner reads the landlord's answer from «有空调,没有洗衣机。». After you finish, switch roles and repeat the same order.

    2

    Reply comprehension: what is included?

Listen to or read the landlord's answers from «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。» and «有空调,没有洗衣机。». Then choose the correct statement about what the apartment has.

Your task: Question 1: According to «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。», does the apartment have a bed, a sofa, and a table? Question 2: According to «有空调,没有洗衣机。», does the apartment have a washing machine? Does it have air conditioning? Answer each question with yes or no, then say the full line from the recording that supports your answer.

    3

Recall and role swap: ask and answer from memory

Work with a partner. One person is the renter and the other is the landlord. Cover the written lines and try to remember the exchange.

Your task: The renter asks whether the apartment is furnished using «你好,这个房子有家具吗?». The landlord answers using «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。». The renter then asks about the washing machine and air conditioning using «有洗衣机和空调吗?». The landlord answers using «有空调,没有洗衣机。». After one round, swap roles and repeat. Keep the same order: question, answer, follow-up question, answer.

    Common questions

Can I use these questions for a different apartment?

Yes. The questions in «有家具吗?», «带家具吗?», «有床吗?», and «有洗衣机吗?» are general and can be used for many rentals. You can ask about furniture first, then ask about specific items such as a bed or a washing machine. The answers you hear will tell you what is included.

What should I listen for in the landlord's answer?

Listen for the item names and for whether the answer is positive or negative. In «有家具。有床、沙发和桌子。», the landlord confirms furniture and lists a bed, a sofa, and a table. In «有空调,没有洗衣机。», the landlord says there is air conditioning but no washing machine. Focus on each item separately so you do not miss a negative answer.
