Useful pattern
Many farewells use gracias por + infinitive: Gracias por invitarme, Gracias por recibirme, Gracias por la comida. The pronoun me attaches to the infinitive: recibir becomes recibirme. To thank a group, use nos: Gracias por recibirnos. This pattern lets you thank your host for specific things without long sentences.
When to use it
Use Gracias por recibirme as you are leaving, often at the door. Use Gracias por la comida right after eating. Add Nos vemos pronto to suggest another meeting. If you want to offer to host, say La próxima vez, los invito yo. Keep your tone warm and smile; these phrases are friendly, not formal.

In many Latin American homes, a farewell can include a light hug or a single cheek kiss, but this varies by country and familiarity. A handshake is fine if you are unsure. Gracias por recibirme is warm and safe with hosts you know; with very formal hosts, Gracias por su hospitalidad may fit better.
One thing to watch for
Saying Gracias por tener mí to mean Thanks for having me.
Try this instead: Spanish does not use a possessive or object pronoun after tener this way. Use Gracias por recibirme, or Gracias por invitarme if you were invited. For example: Gracias por recibirme en su casa.
