Spanish for Reporting Lost Luggage at the Airport
Learn to say your luggage is missing in Spanish and handle the airline claim process, from the counter to your claim number.

When your suitcase doesn't appear on the carousel, you need Spanish that works fast. This lesson teaches you how to report lost luggage at an airline counter, describe your bag, and ask what happens next. You will practice the key sentence Mi equipaje no llegó ('My luggage didn't arrive') and the question ¿Dónde reclamo mi equipaje? ('Where do I claim my luggage?'). You will also learn the words for claim, tag, and delivery so you can follow the process from start to finish. All phrases use broadly useful Latin American Spanish, with regional notes where they matter.
By the end, you can…
- tell an airline agent that my luggage is missing.
- describe my suitcase and give my flight details.
- ask about the claim process and get a claim number.
- understand when and where my luggage will be delivered.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

Mi equipaje no llegó.
My luggage didn't arrive.
mee eh-kee-PAH-heh noh yeh-GOH
The clearest way to report the problem at the counter. Equipaje is a collective noun covering checked bags and carry-ons; for one specific suitcase, maleta is more common.
¿Dónde reclamo mi equipaje?
Where do I claim my luggage?
DOHN-deh reh-KLAH-moh mee eh-kee-PAH-heh
Use this to find the right office. Reclamar here means 'to file a claim,' not 'to complain.'
No encuentro mi maleta.
I can't find my suitcase.
noh ehn-KWEHN-troh mee mah-LEH-tah
Maleta is the common word for a suitcase. Use it when you mean one specific bag.
Aquí está mi comprobante de equipaje.
Here is my baggage claim tag.
ah-KEE ehs-TAH mee kohm-proh-BAHN-teh deh eh-kee-PAH-heh
Comprobante de equipaje is the receipt or document for your checked bag; the tag stapled to your boarding pass is usually called el talón de equipaje or la etiqueta de equipaje.
¿Cuándo va a llegar mi equipaje?
When is my luggage going to arrive?
KWAHN-doh bah ah yeh-GAHR mee eh-kee-PAH-heh
Use this to ask for a time frame. The answer often includes the next flight from your origin city.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Useful pattern
To report a problem with a bag, use 'Mi equipaje no...' plus a verb. Mi equipaje no llegó means it never arrived. Mi equipaje no aparece means it isn't showing up. To describe the bag, add 'Es...': Es una maleta negra, grande, con ruedas ('It's a black, large suitcase with wheels'). To ask about the process, use '¿Cómo...?' or '¿Dónde...?': ¿Cómo hago el reclamo? ('How do I file the claim?'). Notice that no comes directly before the verb, and descriptive adjectives usually follow the noun.
When to use it
Start with Mi equipaje no llegó at the airline counter or the baggage service office, often called reclamo de equipaje. Show your comprobante de equipaje and your pasaporte. If the agent asks for details, answer with Es una maleta plus color and size. Ask ¿Cuándo va a llegar mi equipaje? to get a delivery estimate, and ¿Me pueden dar un número de reclamo? to request a claim number. Keep the number and the agent's name; you will need them for follow-up calls or emails.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
Buenas tardes. Mi equipaje no llegó. ¿Dónde reclamo mi equipaje?

In Latin America, the baggage office is usually called reclamo de equipaje or servicio de equipaje. Politeness matters: open with buenas tardes or buenos días and use usted with agents unless they switch to tú first. In Spain you will often hear maleta and facturación, and the office may be called atención al cliente; the same phrases work, but usted is standard with staff you don't know.
One thing to watch for
Saying Mi equipaje está perdido to mean 'My luggage is missing right now.'
Try this instead: Está perdido suggests it is permanently lost. For a bag that hasn't appeared, say Mi equipaje no llegó or No encuentro mi maleta. Example: Mi equipaje no llegó y no lo encuentro en la banda ('My luggage didn't arrive and I can't find it on the belt').
Your turn

¿Cuándo va a llegar mi equipaje?
This question asks for a time frame. ¿A qué hora llega mi equipaje? is also correct and asks for a specific hour.
3The agent asks for your baggage tag. What is it called, and how do you offer it?

Aquí está mi comprobante de equipaje.
Comprobante de equipaje is the standard term for the baggage receipt. In some regions talón de equipaje or etiqueta de equipaje is used for the tag; all are understood at the counter.
Report the problem with Mi equipaje no llegó, show your comprobante de equipaje, and ask ¿Cuándo va a llegar mi equipaje? Always leave with a claim number and a contact method.
