Korean for Handling Complaints: Say Any Problem Politely and Offer a Fix
Learn to respond to complaints in Korean with calm, useful phrases like 문제없어요 and 죄송하지만 바로 고쳐 드릴게요. Practice staff questions and solutions.

When someone complains in Korean, your first job is to show you understood and that you take it seriously. This lesson teaches intermediate-level responses that work in shops, offices, and everyday service situations. You will learn how to say that something is not a problem using 문제없어요, how to apologize without overdoing it, how to ask what exactly went wrong, and how to offer a concrete fix. The focus is on responding to complaints, not making them, so you can stay calm and helpful even when the other person is frustrated.
By the end, you can…
- respond to a complaint in Korean by acknowledging the problem and apologizing appropriately.
- ask follow-up questions and offer a specific solution using 문제없어요 and related patterns.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

It's no problem. / There's no issue.
mun-je-eop-sseo-yo
Use this to reassure someone that a small mistake or delay is not a serious problem. It can sound dismissive if the complaint is serious, so pair it with an apology when needed.
I'm sorry, but I'll fix it right away.
joe-song-ha-ji-man ba-ro go-chyeo deu-ril-ge-yo
A polite, service-oriented response. Use it when you can personally correct the issue. The -지만 softens the apology and moves quickly to action.
What was inconvenient for you? / What exactly was the problem?
eo-tteon jeo-mi bul-pyeon-ha-syeo-sseo-yo?
A respectful way to ask for details. The honorific -시- in 불편하셨어요 shows you are addressing a customer or someone older. Use it to understand the complaint before offering a solution.
I'll check and get back to you.
hwa-gin-hae bo-go da-si yeon-rak-deu-ril-ge-yo
Use this when you cannot solve the problem immediately. It promises follow-up without inventing a specific policy or deadline. 드릴게요 is a humble form of 'I will give'.
Could you check once more, please?
da-si han-beon hwa-gin-hae ju-si-ge-sseo-yo?
A polite request for the other person to recheck something. It is useful when the complaint may be based on a misunderstanding, but it should be said gently so it does not sound like blame.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Make it make sense
Useful pattern
The pattern 문제없어요 (mun-je-eop-sseo-yo) literally means 'there is no problem.' It comes from 문제 (problem) + 없어요 (there is not). You can use it to reassure someone after a small issue: 늦어도 문제없어요 (neu-jeo-do mun-je-eop-sseo-yo, 'Even if it's late, it's no problem'). To respond to a complaint more actively, combine an apology with a solution: 죄송합니다. 제가 바로 처리해 드릴게요 (joe-song-ham-ni-da. je-ga ba-ro cheo-ri-hae deu-ril-ge-yo, 'I'm sorry. I'll handle it right away'). For a neutral, businesslike tone, use 확인해 보겠습니다 (hwa-gin-hae bo-get-seum-ni-da, 'I will check'). These patterns let you acknowledge the issue and move toward a fix without overpromising.
When to use it
Use 문제없어요 when the complaint is minor and you want to put the other person at ease, for example after a small delay: 조금 늦었지만 문제없어요 (jo-geum neu-jeot-ji-man mun-je-eop-sseo-yo, 'It was a bit late, but it's no problem'). For a serious complaint, start with an apology: 불편을 드려서 죄송합니다 (bul-pyeon-eul deu-ryeo-seo joe-song-ham-ni-da, 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience'). Then ask for details with 어떤 점이 불편하셨어요? and offer a concrete action. If you need time, say Avoid saying 문제없어요 immediately after a serious complaint, because it can sound like you are minimizing the person's feelings. In service settings, the honorific style with -시- and -드릴게요 is safer with customers and older adults.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
The item I ordered hasn't arrived yet. Could you check for me?ju-mun-han mul-geon-i a-jik an wa-sseo-yo. jom hwa-gin-hae ju-si-ge-sseo-yo?
Ah, I'm sorry. What exactly was the problem?a, joe-song-ham-ni-da. eo-tteon jeo-mi bul-pyeon-ha-syeo-sseo-yo?
The delivery hasn't come for a week. It's so late that there's a problem.bae-song-i il-ju-il-jjae an wa-seo-yo. neo-mu neu-jeo-seo mun-je-ga i-sseo-yo.
I'll check and get back to you right away. I'm sorry, but could you wait a little?hwa-gin-hae bo-go ba-ro da-si yeon-rak-deu-ril-ge-yo. joe-song-ha-ji-man jo-geum-man gi-da-ryeo ju-si-ge-sseo-yo?A little context goes a long way
In Korean service interactions, showing that you take the complaint seriously often matters more than giving a quick fix. Using honorifics such as -시- and humble forms like 드릴게요 signals respect, especially with customers or older adults. 문제없어요 is fine for small issues, but with a serious complaint, lead with an apology and a concrete action. Directly blaming the other person can damage the relationship, so phrases like 다시 한번 확인해 주시겠어요? keep the tone cooperative.
One thing to watch for
Using 문제없어요 as the first response to every complaint, even a serious one.
Try this instead: For serious complaints, start with an apology and a solution, then use 문제없어요 only if appropriate. (bul-pyeon-eul deu-ryeo-seo joe-song-ham-ni-da. je-ga ba-ro go-chyeo deu-ril-ge-yo, 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll fix it right away.')
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1A customer says the item is late. What is a polite Korean response that apologizes and offers to check?
Show a sample answer
This works because it apologizes first and promises follow-up. You could also say (I'll check right away) if you can act immediately.
2How would you reassure someone that a small delay is not a problem in Korean?
Show a sample answer
문제없어요 means 'it's no problem.' Adding 늦어도 ('even if it's late') makes the reassurance specific. 조금 늦어도 괜찮아요 is also acceptable.
3What Korean phrase asks a customer what exactly was inconvenient, using honorific speech?
Show a sample answer
This uses the honorific -시- in 불편하셨어요 to show respect. A slightly more formal version is 어떤 점이 불편하셨습니까? (eo-tteon jeo-mi bul-pyeon-ha-syeot-seum-ni-kka?).
Respond to complaints in Korean by apologizing first, asking for details with 어떤 점이 불편하셨어요?, and offering a clear action. Use 문제없어요 for small issues, and save it for after you have shown you take the complaint seriously.
