How to Ask About Internet Speed and Reliability in Korean
Learn to ask 'Is the internet fast?' in Korean, check whether the connection is reliable, and understand common replies about Wi-Fi and data.

When you arrive at a café, guesthouse, or new apartment in Korea, one of the first practical questions is about the internet. In this lesson you will learn a small, flexible set of Korean sentences for asking whether the internet is fast, whether it works well, and whether the connection is reliable. You will also learn how to understand short answers, including common words like 와이파이 (wa-i-pa-i, Wi-Fi) and 데이터 (de-i-teo, mobile data). All examples use polite everyday speech, so they are safe with strangers and staff.
By the end, you can…
- ask whether the internet or Wi-Fi is fast in Korean.
- ask whether the connection works well or is reliable.
- understand simple answers about Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

인터넷 빨라요?
Is the internet fast?
in-teo-net ppal-la-yo
A simple yes-or-no question. Use it with staff or a host when you want a quick answer about speed.
와이파이 있어요?
Is there Wi-Fi?
wa-i-pa-i i-sseo-yo
Use this first if you do not know whether Wi-Fi is available at all. 와이파이 is the common borrowed word.
인터넷 잘 돼요?
Does the internet work well?
in-teo-net jal dwae-yo
This asks about general functioning, not only speed. 잘 돼요? is very common for machines, connections, and services.
연결이 안정적이에요?
Is the connection stable?
yeon-gyeol-i an-jeong-jeok-i-e-yo
Use this for reliability: whether the connection drops or stays steady. It is a little more formal than 잘 돼요?
데이터는 잘 터져요?
Does mobile data work well?
de-i-teo-neun jal teo-jyeo-yo
Use this when asking about phone data signal, not Wi-Fi. 터지다 here means the signal is received.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Useful pattern
For a simple yes-or-no question about speed, use a word plus 빨라요? For example, 인터넷 빨라요? means 'Is the internet fast?' and 와이파이 빨라요? means 'Is the Wi-Fi fast?' If you want to ask about functioning rather than speed, use 잘 돼요? as in 인터넷 잘 돼요? ('Does the internet work well?'). To ask about reliability, use 연결이 안정적이에요? ('Is the connection stable?'). Notice that Korean does not need a word for 'the' or 'a' here; context makes it clear.
When to use it
Use 인터넷 빨라요? when you mainly care about speed, such as for video calls or large downloads. Use 인터넷 잘 돼요? in everyday situations when you just want to know if the connection works. Use 연결이 안정적이에요? when the issue is dropping or unstable service, for example in a basement room or an older building. If you are asking about your phone rather than Wi-Fi, say 데이터는 잘 터져요? The particle 는 marks 데이터 as the topic, contrasting it with Wi-Fi.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
와이파이 있어요?
Is there Wi-Fi?wa-i-pa-i i-sseo-yo네, 있어요.
Yes, there is.ne, i-sseo-yo인터넷 빨라요?
Is the internet fast?in-teo-net ppal-la-yo네, 빨라요. 그런데 연결이 가끔 안정적이지 않아요.
Yes, it is fast. But the connection is sometimes not stable.ne, ppal-la-yo. geu-reon-de yeon-gyeol-i ga-kkeum an-jeong-jeok-i-ji a-na-yoA little context goes a long way
Polite -요 endings are the safe default with staff, hosts, and strangers. Koreans often answer with short phrases like 네, 빨라요 or 잘 돼요, so do not expect a long explanation. If you need more detail, you can ask 다시 한 번 말해 주세요 (da-si han beon mal-hae ju-se-yo, 'Please say that again').
One thing to watch for
Using 좋아요? ('Is it good?') to ask whether the internet is fast.
Try this instead: 좋아요? is too general and does not ask about speed. Say 인터넷 빨라요? for speed, or 인터넷 잘 돼요? for whether it works. For example: 인터넷 빨라요? ('Is the internet fast?') is much clearer than 인터넷 좋아요?
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1How do you ask 'Is the Wi-Fi fast?' in polite Korean?
Show a sample answer
와이파이 빨라요?
와이파이 means Wi-Fi, and 빨라요? asks 'is it fast?' This works because the subject can be omitted in casual polite questions. 인터넷 빨라요? is also valid if you mean the internet generally.
2You want to ask whether the connection is stable. What sentence fits best?
Show a sample answer
연결이 안정적이에요?
연결 means connection, and 안정적이에요? means 'is it stable?' This targets reliability rather than speed. 인터넷 잘 돼요? is a broader alternative if you only need to know whether it works.
3Someone says 데이터는 잘 터져요. What are they talking about?
Show a sample answer
Mobile data signal, not Wi-Fi.
데이터 means mobile data, and 터지다 here means the signal is received well. The topic particle 는 contrasts data with Wi-Fi. If they meant Wi-Fi, they would likely say 와이파이 instead.
Ask 인터넷 빨라요? for speed, 인터넷 잘 돼요? for general functioning, and 연결이 안정적이에요? for reliability. These three questions cover most everyday internet situations in Korean.
