Includes practice questions and sample answers.

When you send a pacco (parcel) at an Italian post office or shipping point, you normally receive a ricevuta (receipt) showing the tracking code and the transaction. If it never arrived, you need to explain the problem clearly and ask what the clerk can do. This lesson gives you polite, persistent Italian for that exact situation: saying you did not receive the receipt, asking for a reprint, and understanding the options staff may offer. You will practise complete sentences you can reuse at any counter, not isolated vocabulary.

    By the end, you can…

    • explain in Italian that I did not receive the receipt for a parcel.
    • politely ask a clerk to print or resend the receipt.
    • understand and respond to common staff options at the counter.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    Non ho ricevuto la ricevuta.

    I didn't receive the receipt.

    non oh ree-cheh-VOO-toh lah ree-cheh-VOO-tah

Direct, neutral opening. Use it as soon as the clerk asks what you need.

Me la può stampare, per favore?

Can you print it for me, please?

meh lah pwoh STAM-pah-reh pehr fah-VOH-reh

La refers to la ricevuta (feminine). Use with a single clerk you address as lei.

Ho spedito un pacco, ma la ricevuta non è arrivata.

I sent a parcel, but the receipt didn't arrive.

oh speh-DEE-toh oon PAK-koh mah lah ree-cheh-VOO-tah non eh ar-ree-VAH-tah

Adds context. Arrivata agrees with the feminine noun ricevuta.

Posso avere una copia della ricevuta?

Can I have a copy of the receipt?

    POS-soh ah-VEH-reh OO-nah KOH-pyah DEL-lah ree-cheh-VOO-tah

Useful if you need a duplicate rather than the original document.

    Come posso fare per averla?

What can I do to get it?

    KOH-meh POS-soh FAH-reh pehr ah-VER-lah

Open question inviting the clerk to explain the available procedure.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The core pattern is Non ho ricevuto + noun. Non ho ricevuto la ricevuta. Non ho ricevuto il codice di tracciamento. The verb ricevere is regular, so the past participle is ricevuto. To ask for action, use Me la può + infinitive: Me la può stampare? Me la può mandare? The pronoun la stands for la ricevuta, a feminine noun, so it stays la even when you change the verb. If you mean the tracking code instead, use lo: Me lo può mandare?

    When to use it

Start with Non ho ricevuto la ricevuta when the clerk asks what you need. Add Ho spedito un pacco if you want to give context immediately. Use Me la può stampare? when you are at the counter and a printer is available. Use Posso avere una copia? if you mainly need a document for your records. If the clerk offers to send it by email, you can answer Sì, va bene, grazie or Preferisco una copia stampata, se possibile. Keep your tone calm and polite; persistence works better than frustration.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

Buongiorno, ho spedito un pacco la settimana scorsa, ma non ho ricevuto la ricevuta.

    Good morning, I sent a parcel last week, but I didn't receive the receipt.bwon-JOR-noh oh speh-DEE-toh oon PAK-koh lah set-tee-MAH-nah SKOR-sah mah non oh ree-cheh-VOO-toh lah ree-cheh-VOO-tah

I see. Do you have the tracking code or the shipment number?kah-PEES-koh ah eel KOH-dee-cheh dee traht-chah-MEN-toh oh eel NOO-meh-roh DEL-lah speh-dee-TSYOH-neh

I only have the name and the date. Can you print it for me, please?oh SOH-loh eel NOH-meh eh lah DAH-tah meh lah pwoh STAM-pah-reh pehr fah-VOH-reh
    B

Posso controllare nel sistema. Se la trova, posso stamparle una copia.

    I can check in the system. If it's there, I can print you a copy.POS-soh kon-trol-LAH-reh nel sis-TEH-mah seh lah TROH-vah POS-soh stam-PAR-leh OO-nah KOH-pyah

A little context goes a long way

At Italian post offices and shipping points, address staff with lei and open with buongiorno or buonasera. Politeness markers such as per favore and grazie are expected, and a calm, clear explanation is usually more effective than raising your voice. Procedures vary by office and by counter, so ask what is possible rather than assuming a fixed rule.

    One thing to watch for

Using lo for the receipt: Me lo può stampare?

Try this instead: Ricevuta is feminine, so use la: Me la può stampare? Use lo only for masculine nouns, for example il codice: Me lo può mandare?

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you say 'I didn't receive the receipt' in Italian?

    Show a sample answer

    Non ho ricevuto la ricevuta.

This uses the first-person past of ricevere plus the feminine noun ricevuta. You could also say La ricevuta non è arrivata, which shifts focus to the receipt itself.

2You need the clerk to print the receipt. Which pronoun do you use, and why?

    Show a sample answer

Me la può stampare? The pronoun la replaces la ricevuta, a feminine noun.

Italian object pronouns agree in gender with the noun they replace. La is correct for ricevuta; lo would be used for a masculine noun such as il codice.

3The clerk offers to email the receipt. How can you accept politely?

    Show a sample answer

Sì, va bene, grazie. Or: Sì, la mia email è...

Va bene accepts the offer naturally. If you prefer a printed copy, you can add Preferisco una copia stampata, se possibile, which is equally polite.

    Take this with you

Open with Non ho ricevuto la ricevuta, then ask Me la può stampare? Keep la for the feminine noun ricevuta, stay polite, and ask what options the counter can offer.
