On departure boards, look for Binario or the abbreviation Bin. Trains are listed by destination and time. A delay appears as ritardo, and a cancellation as soppresso. Italians usually say binario for the platform and sometimes marciapiede for the raised edge, but binario is what you need. At large stations such as Roma Termini or Milano Centrale, platforms are announced shortly before departure, so arriving early and watching the board is normal. Regional trains may use the same word, though in some northern announcements you may hear the term binario di partenza.

Try this instead: Piattaforma is not used for train platforms in Italian. The correct word is binario: Da quale binario parte il treno per Roma? Use piattaforma for other contexts, such as a software platform.
