Listen for a steady vowel
Begin with Il est presque midi. The two vowels in midi give you a model for /i/. Keep that vowel steady instead of letting it slide into a second sound. Next, listen to Tu es sûr ? The vowel /y/ in tu uses rounded lips with the tongue toward the front of the mouth. Starting from an ee-like tongue position and rounding your lips can help, but use the recording as your model. In La gare est près d'ici, listen to the open /ɛ/ in près. The written accent in près is è, not ê. These examples practise three sounds; they do not cover every French vowel.

Rehearse both roles using the exact lines before trying to personalise them.
