Mandarin Chinese for Reporting Lost Luggage at an Airport
Learn to say your luggage is missing in Mandarin, describe your bag, and follow the lost-luggage claim process at a Chinese-speaking airport.

If your checked bag does not appear on the carousel, the first minutes matter: you need to report it before you leave the baggage hall. This lesson teaches intermediate Mandarin for exactly that situation. You will learn the core sentence 我的行李不见了 (wǒ de xíngli bú jiàn le), describe your bag with colors and features, ask where the lost-and-found or baggage service office is, and understand the claim steps: filing a report, giving your contact details, receiving a file number, and asking about delivery. The language stays practical and polite, using 请问 (qǐngwèn) to open requests and 麻烦你 (máfan nǐ) to soften them.
By the end, you can…
- say my luggage is missing and ask where to report it.
- describe my suitcase's color, size, and features.
- give my flight number, name, and contact details at the baggage service desk.
- ask about the claim process, file number, and delivery of a found bag.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

我的行李不见了。
My luggage is missing.
wǒ de xíngli bú jiàn le
The core sentence. 行李 (xíngli) means luggage or baggage and has no plural ending; 不见了 (bú jiàn le) means 'is missing / has disappeared'.
请问,行李查询处在哪里?
Excuse me, where is the baggage inquiry office?
qǐngwèn, xíngli cháxún chù zài nǎlǐ
Use 请问 at the start to politely ask a stranger. 行李查询处 is the usual sign for the lost-luggage or baggage service desk.
我有一个黑色的行李箱,这么大。
I have a black suitcase, about this big.
wǒ yǒu yí ge hēisè de xínglixiāng, zhème dà
行李箱 (xínglixiāng) is a suitcase. 这么大 (zhème dà) means 'this big' and works well while gesturing with your hands.
这是我的行李牌和登机牌。
Here are my baggage tag and boarding pass.
zhè shì wǒ de xíngli pái hé dēngjī pái
Hand these over when filing a report. 行李牌 is the baggage claim tag; 登机牌 is the boarding pass.
找到以后可以送到我的酒店吗?
After it is found, can it be delivered to my hotel?
zhǎodào yǐhòu kěyǐ sòng dào wǒ de jiǔdiàn ma
A polite request using 可以…吗. 送到 (sòng dào) means 'deliver to'. Have your hotel name and address ready.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Make it make sense
Useful pattern
To report a missing item, use 我的 + noun + 不见了: 我的行李不见了 (my luggage is missing), 我的护照不见了 (my passport is missing), 我的手机不见了 (my phone is missing). To ask where to handle it, use 请问 + place + 在哪里: 请问,行李查询处在哪里? (Excuse me, where is the baggage inquiry office?) To describe your bag, put the color before 的 + 行李箱: 黑色的行李箱 (a black suitcase), 蓝色的行李箱 (a blue suitcase). Chinese nouns do not change for plural, so 行李 can mean one bag or several; add a number and measure word if needed: 两件行李 (two pieces of luggage).
When to use it
Use these sentences only inside the baggage hall or at the airline's baggage service desk, before you exit customs. Start with 请问 to a staff member, then say 我的行李不见了. If you cannot find the desk, ask 请问,行李查询处在哪里? At the desk, say 这是我的行李牌和登机牌 and give your flight number. When the report is written, ask 有档案号码吗? (Is there a file number?) and 找到以后可以送到我的酒店吗? Keep your tone calm and polite; 麻烦你 (máfan nǐ, 'sorry to trouble you') before a request sounds cooperative rather than demanding.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
请问,行李查询处在哪里?我的行李不见了。
Excuse me, where is the baggage inquiry office? My luggage is missing.qǐngwèn, xíngli cháxún chù zài nǎlǐ? wǒ de xíngli bú jiàn le在那边。请给我你的行李牌和登机牌。
It's over there. Please give me your baggage tag and boarding pass.zài nàbiān. qǐng gěi wǒ nǐ de xíngli pái hé dēngjī pái好的。我有一个黑色的行李箱,这么大,上面有一条红带子。
Okay. I have a black suitcase, about this big, with a red strap on it.hǎo de. wǒ yǒu yí ge hēisè de xínglixiāng, zhème dà, shàngmian yǒu yì tiáo hóng dàizi我记下了。这是档案号码。找到以后我们会打电话给你。
I've noted it. This is the file number. After we find it, we will call you.wǒ jì xià le. zhè shì dàng'àn hàomǎ. zhǎodào yǐhòu wǒmen huì dǎ diànhuà gěi nǐA little context goes a long way
At airports in mainland China, staff usually speak Mandarin, but announcements and forms may also appear in English at international terminals. Politeness matters more than directness: opening with 请问 or 麻烦你 and keeping your voice level is expected. Do not leave the baggage hall before filing the report, because once you exit, the airline may treat the case differently. Keep your baggage tag until your bag is returned; it is the main proof of your claim.
One thing to watch for
Adding a plural ending to 行李, as in 行李们, or saying 我的行李们不见了.
Try this instead: Chinese nouns are not marked for plural. Say 我的行李不见了 for one or more bags. If you need to be specific, use a number and measure word: 我的两件行李不见了 (Both of my checked bags are missing).
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1How do you say 'My luggage is missing' in Mandarin?
Show a sample answer
我的行李不见了。 (wǒ de xíngli bú jiàn le)
This uses 我的 + 行李 + 不见了. It works for one or several bags because 行李 has no plural form. 我的行李丢了 (wǒ de xíngli diū le) is also acceptable and common.
2You need to find the baggage service desk. What polite question do you ask?
Show a sample answer
请问,行李查询处在哪里? (qǐngwèn, xíngli cháxún chù zài nǎlǐ)
请问 softens the question, and 在哪里 asks 'where'. Some airports use 行李服务处 (xíngli fúwù chù, baggage service office); both are understood.
3At the desk, how do you ask whether the bag can be delivered to your hotel after it is found?
Show a sample answer
找到以后可以送到我的酒店吗? (zhǎodào yǐhòu kěyǐ sòng dào wǒ de jiǔdiàn ma)
找到以后 means 'after it is found', 可以…吗 forms a polite request, and 送到 means 'deliver to'. You can replace 酒店 with 旅馆 (lǚguǎn) or your specific hotel name.
Report a missing bag before leaving the baggage hall: say 我的行李不见了, ask for 行李查询处, hand over your 行李牌 and 登机牌, and get a 档案号码 before you go.
