How to Say "Please Let Me Know" in Chinese: 告诉我, 通知我 and Natural Follow-Ups

In Chinese, "please let me know" is not one fixed phrase. The natural choice depends on what you want: passing on a piece of information (告诉我) or sending an update when something changes (通知我). This lesson gives you four reusable patterns for everyday situations such as waiting for a friend, confirming a meeting time, or asking a service contact to keep you posted. You will learn the polite request word 请, the light spoken ending 一声, and the time pattern 确定时间后 (after the time is confirmed). All examples use everyday Mandarin that you can say as-is.

qǐng gàosu wǒ
A polite, general request for information. Use it when you want someone to give you a fact, an answer or a detail. It is neutral in register and works in shops, offices and daily life.
到了告诉我一声
Let me know when you arrive.
dào le gàosu wǒ yì shēng
Very common in spoken Mandarin. 一声 literally means "one sound" but here it softens the request: just give me a quick heads-up. Use it with friends, family or colleagues you know well.
有变化请通知我
Please notify me if there are any changes.
yǒu biànhuà qǐng tōngzhī wǒ
通知我 means to notify or inform someone officially or as part of an arrangement. Use it for schedules, bookings, appointments or plans that may change. It sounds more formal than 告诉我一声.
确定时间后告诉我
Tell me after the time is confirmed.
quèdìng shíjiān hòu gàosu wǒ
The pattern [action] 后 means "after doing [action]". Use this when the other person needs to check or decide something first, then report back to you.
我等你消息
I'll wait for your message.
wǒ děng nǐ xiāoxi
A friendly closing line after asking someone to let you know. 消息 means news or a message. It works in both casual and semi-formal situations.

Useful pattern
The core pattern is 告诉我 (tell me) plus a time or condition. Put the condition first, then the request: 到了告诉我一声 (when you arrive, let me know), 确定时间后告诉我 (after the time is confirmed, tell me). For updates, use 通知我: 有变化请通知我 (if there are changes, please notify me). Notice that 请 makes a request polite and usually comes before the verb: 请告诉我, 请通知我. In casual speech, 告诉我一声 adds a light, friendly tone. Do not add 请 to 告诉我一声 in casual talk; it can sound stiff. If you want to be extra polite, say 麻烦你告诉我 (sorry to trouble you, tell me).
When to use it
Use 告诉我 when you simply want information: 请告诉我你的电话号码 (please tell me your phone number). Use 通知我 when someone should actively send you an update: 有变化请通知我 (please notify me if there are changes). Use 告诉我一声 for small, everyday things: 到了告诉我一声 (let me know when you arrive). Use 确定时间后告诉我 when the other person must confirm something first. If you are speaking to staff, a polite question works well: 请问, 有变化会通知我吗? (Excuse me, will you notify me if there are changes?). Avoid saying 让我知道 in most everyday speech; it is understandable but less natural than 告诉我 or 通知我.

In Mandarin, politeness often comes from context and tone rather than extra words. 请 is polite but can sound formal in close relationships; with friends, 告诉我一声 is warmer. 通知我 is common in service and scheduling situations, but it can sound official, so use it when you genuinely expect an update. If you are unsure, a short question such as 会通知我吗? (will you notify me?) is clear and natural.
One thing to watch for
Translating "let me know" word-for-word as 让我知道 in every situation.
Try this instead: In everyday Mandarin, 让我知道 is understandable but often sounds translated. Use 告诉我 for information and 通知我 for updates. For example, say 到了告诉我一声, not 到了让我知道. If you want a softer spoken option, 告诉我一声 is very natural.
