Use this to ask for feedback on your concept.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

To describe your concept, use the pattern: 我想开一家 + [type of business] + 主打 + [main product]. For example, 我想开一家咖啡馆,主打手冲咖啡。 (I want to open a café, specializing in pour-over coffee.) You can also use 我们的特色是 + [feature] to highlight uniqueness, e.g., 我们的特色是健康轻食。 (Our specialty is healthy light meals.)

    When to use it

Use these phrases when pitching to investors, partners, or potential customers. For instance, when explaining your target market, say 目标客户是年轻人。 (The target customers are young people.) When asking for opinions, use 你觉得怎么样? (What do you think?) This is polite and open-ended. In formal settings, you can say 请多多指教。 (Please give me your advice.)

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

Sounds like there's a good market. How do you think you can attract them?tīng qǐlái hěn yǒu shìchǎng. nǐ juéde zěnmeyàng cái néng xīyǐn tāmen?

A little context goes a long way

In Chinese business culture, building relationships (关系, guānxi) is crucial. When pitching, show respect and humility. Use phrases like 请多多指教 (qǐng duōduō zhǐjiào, please give me your advice) to show openness to feedback. Avoid being overly aggressive; a collaborative tone is often more effective.

    One thing to watch for

Using 开 for all types of businesses, e.g., 开一家产品.

Try this instead: 开 is used for physical establishments like restaurants or shops. For products, use 推出 (tuīchū, to launch) or 开发 (kāifā, to develop). For example, 我们推出了一款新应用。 (We launched a new app.)

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How would you say 'Our specialty is handmade noodles' in Mandarin?

    Show a sample answer

    我们的特色是手工面。

This uses the pattern 我们的特色是... to highlight a key feature. Alternatively, you could say 我们主打手工面。

2Translate: 'I want to open a tea shop.'

    Show a sample answer

    我想开一家茶馆。

This uses 我想开一家 + type of shop. 茶馆 is the common term for tea shop. You could also say 茶店, but 茶馆 is more traditional.

3What phrase would you use to ask for feedback politely?

    Show a sample answer

    你觉得怎么样?

This is a standard way to ask 'What do you think?' It's polite and open. In formal contexts, 请多多指教 is also appropriate.

    Take this with you

When pitching a concept in Mandarin, clearly state your idea, highlight your specialty, define your target customers, and invite feedback. Use the patterns and phrases from this lesson to communicate effectively and respectfully.
