Use 喜欢 (xǐhuan) to express liking something. 流行音乐 (liúxíng yīnyuè) means pop music.
我是爵士乐的粉丝。

粉丝 (fěnsī) is a loanword from English 'fans'. Use 是...的粉丝 to say you're a fan of something. To say you're a big fan, add 大 (dà): 我是...的大粉丝.

A common question to ask about music preferences. 什么 (shénme) means 'what'.
我也喜欢摇滚乐。

wǒ yě xǐhuan yáogǔn yuè
也 (yě) means 'also' and is used to agree or add similar information. It comes before the verb.
但是我不喜欢古典音乐。
But I don't like classical music.
dànshì wǒ bù xǐhuan gǔdiǎn yīnyuè
但是 (dànshì) means 'but'. Use 不 (bù) before 喜欢 to negate. Note that 不 is pronounced bù here, but changes to bú before a fourth tone, as in 不是 (bú shì).

To express what music you like, use the pattern: 我喜欢 + [music genre]. For example, 我喜欢流行音乐 (wǒ xǐhuan liúxíng yīnyuè) means 'I like pop music.' To say you're a fan of an artist or genre, use 我是 + [artist/genre] + 的粉丝 (wǒ shì... de fěnsī). For instance, 我是周杰伦的粉丝 (wǒ shì Zhōu Jiélún de fěnsī) means 'I'm a fan of Jay Chou.' To ask about someone else's preference, say 你喜欢什么音乐？ (nǐ xǐhuan shénme yīnyuè?) meaning 'What music do you like?'
When to use it
Use these phrases in casual conversations with friends or acquaintances. When you want to agree, use 也 (yě) to say 'also', as in 我也喜欢 (wǒ yě xǐhuan) 'I also like it.' To disagree politely, use 但是 (dànshì) 'but' followed by your preference, e.g., 但是我喜欢爵士乐 (dànshì wǒ xǐhuan juéshì yuè) 'But I like jazz.' Remember that 喜欢 (xǐhuan) can be used for both people and things, but for music genres, it's the most natural choice.

In Chinese conversations, expressing music preferences is a common way to bond. While 我喜欢 is straightforward, using 我是...的粉丝 adds enthusiasm. Note that 粉丝 is informal and popular among younger speakers; in more formal contexts, you might say 我是...的爱好者 (wǒ shì... de àihàozhě) meaning 'I'm an enthusiast of...'. Also, Chinese speakers often use 也 (yě) to show shared taste, which helps build rapport.
One thing to watch for
Saying 我是喜欢流行音乐 (wǒ shì xǐhuan liúxíng yīnyuè) to mean 'I like pop music.'
Try this instead: Don't use 是 (shì) before 喜欢 (xǐhuan). The correct sentence is 我喜欢流行音乐 (wǒ xǐhuan liúxíng yīnyuè). 是 is only used in the fan pattern: 我是...的粉丝.
