Chinese for Inspecting a Used Lens: Describe Haze, Scratches, and Image Impact

Learn to say 镜片雾化 (lens haze), 划痕 (scratches), and 影响成像 (affects image) when checking a secondhand lens. Ask the seller clear, cautious questions.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
A quiet illustrated scene for evening language practice

When you buy a used lens, you need to point out problems precisely. In Chinese, say 镜片雾化 for lens haze, 划痕 for scratches, and 影响成像 for affects image. This lesson gives you the exact words and questions to ask a seller in a secondhand camera market. You will practice a short dialogue and learn to sound technical but polite. No prior camera vocabulary is needed.

    By the end, you can…

    • name lens haze and scratches in Chinese.
    • ask a seller whether a lens problem affects image quality.
    • describe a lens condition cautiously during a used-gear inspection.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    镜片雾化

    lens haze

    jìng piàn wù huà

Use for a cloudy, hazy coating or internal fog on the glass. Say it while pointing at the lens element. 雾化 (wù huà) describes the hazy state; 雾 (wù) alone usually means fog or mist.

    划痕

    scratches

    huá hén

Use for physical marks on the glass or barrel. Often paired with 有 (yǒu, have) or 没有 (méi yǒu, not have). 划 is pronounced huá here, not huà.

    影响成像

    affects image (quality)

    yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng

Use to ask if a defect changes the photo. It is a neutral, technical phrase. 成像 (chéng xiàng) means image formation, so the phrase literally means 'affects image formation'.

    这个镜片有雾化吗?

    Does this lens have haze?

zhè ge jìng piàn yǒu wù huà ma?

A direct yes/no question. 吗 (ma) makes it a clear question; it does not by itself make the sentence polite.

    会影响成像吗?

    Will it affect the image?

huì yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng ma?

Ask this after the seller mentions any defect. It shows you care about photo quality. 会 (huì) here means 'will' and signals a likely effect.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

Use 有 (yǒu, have) + problem + 吗 (ma) to ask about a defect. For example: 这个镜片有划痕吗? (zhè ge jìng piàn yǒu huá hén ma? — Does this lens have scratches?) and 这个镜片有雾化吗? (zhè ge jìng piàn yǒu wù huà ma? — Does this lens have haze?). To ask about impact, use 会 (huì, will) + 影响成像 (yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng, affect image) + 吗. Example: 划痕会影响成像吗? (huá hén huì yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng ma? — Will scratches affect the image?). Keep the pattern short and repeat it for each defect. Note that 吗 (ma) marks a yes/no question; politeness comes from tone and word choice, not from 吗 itself.

    When to use it

Use these questions when you inspect a used lens in person. First ask about 雾化 (wù huà, haze) because it is hard to see. Then ask about 划痕 (huá hén, scratches). Finally ask 会影响成像吗? (huì yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng ma? — Will it affect the image?). If the seller says 有一点 (yǒu yī diǎn, a little), you can reply 谢谢,我再看看 (xiè xie, wǒ zài kàn kan — Thanks, I’ll look again). This keeps the tone cautious but not rude. 有一点 (yǒu yī diǎn) literally means 'there is a little'; in context it often means 'a little bit'.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    老板,这个镜片有雾化吗?

Boss, does this lens have haze?lǎo bǎn, zhè ge jìng piàn yǒu wù huà ma?
    B

    有一点,但不影响成像。

A little, but it doesn’t affect the image.yǒu yī diǎn, dàn bù yǐng xiǎng chéng xiàng.
    A

    那有划痕吗?

Then does it have scratches?nà yǒu huá hén ma?
    B

    没有划痕,镜片很干净。

No scratches, the lens is very clean.méi yǒu huá hén, jìng piàn hěn gān jìng.

A little context goes a long way

In secondhand camera markets, sellers may downplay defects. Using technical terms like 雾化 and 划痕 shows you know what you are talking about. Keep your tone calm and factual. Avoid accusing the seller; instead, ask 会影响成像吗? to focus on practical impact. This is often more effective than arguing about condition. Note that individual sellers vary; not everyone will downplay defects.

    One thing to watch for

Saying 镜片有雾 (jìng piàn yǒu wù) for lens haze.

Try this instead: 镜片有雾 means the lens has fog (like condensation), not permanent haze. For haze, say 镜片有雾化 (jìng piàn yǒu wù huà). The syllable 化 (huà) shows a changed state, which matches the defect.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you ask 'Does this lens have scratches?' in Chinese?

    Show a sample answer

    这个镜片有划痕吗?

This uses 有 (have) + 划痕 (scratches) + 吗 (question particle). You can also point and say 有划痕吗? if the lens is already clear from context.

    2What phrase means 'affects image'?

    Show a sample answer

    影响成像

影响成像 is the standard technical phrase. It works in questions like 会影响成像吗? and in statements like 不影响成像.

3If the seller says 有一点雾化 (a little haze), what cautious question can you ask next?

    Show a sample answer

    会影响成像吗?

This asks about practical impact. You could also ask 严重吗? (Is it serious?), but 会影响成像吗? is more specific to photography.

    Take this with you

Use 镜片雾化 for haze, 划痕 for scratches, and 影响成像 to ask about image quality. Ask calmly and repeat the pattern for each defect.
