Chinese for Beginners: Agreeing with Someone's Opinion
Learn to agree with opinions in Mandarin using 我同意, 你说得对, and more. Includes pinyin, dialogue, and practice.

When someone shares an opinion in Chinese, you often need to respond with agreement. This lesson teaches you five common phrases to say 'I agree' or 'That's true' in Mandarin. You will learn the exact words, their tones, and when to use each one. We focus only on agreement, not on stating your own opinion. By the end, you will be able to respond naturally in a conversation. All examples use simplified Chinese and pinyin with tone marks. Let's start.
By the end, you can…

Useful pattern
To agree with someone's opinion, you can use 我同意 (wǒ tóngyì) or 你说得对 (nǐ shuō de duì). Both are complete sentences. For example, if someone says 我觉得太贵了 (wǒ juéde tài guì le - I think it's too expensive), you can reply 我同意 (I agree) or 你说得对 (You're right). You can also add 也 (yě - also) to show you share the same view: 我也这么觉得 (wǒ yě zhème juéde - I think so too). Remember that 同意 (tóngyì) is a verb, so you say 我同意, not 我是同意.
When to use it
Use 我同意 in formal or neutral situations, like at work or with acquaintances. Use 你说得对 and 没错 in casual conversations with friends or family. If you want to sound more engaged, start with 真的吗?(zhēn de ma? - Really?) and then agree. For example: A: 这个电影很好看。(zhège diànyǐng hěn hǎokàn - This movie is very good.) B: 真的吗?我也这么觉得。(Really? I think so too.) Avoid using 我同意 with close friends in very casual settings; it can sound a bit stiff. Instead, use 没错 or 对.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
我觉得这件衣服太贵了。
I think this piece of clothing is too expensive.wǒ juéde zhè jiàn yīfu tài guì le。我同意。而且颜色也不太好看。
I agree. And the color isn't very nice either.wǒ tóngyì。érqiě yánsè yě bú tài hǎokàn。你说得对。我们看看别的吧。
You're right. Let's look at something else.nǐ shuō de duì。wǒmen kàn kan bié de ba。好的。那边那家店好像不错。
Okay. That shop over there seems nice.hǎo de。nàbiān nà jiā diàn hǎoxiàng búcuò。A little context goes a long way
In Chinese conversation, direct agreement is common, but the tone and phrase choice matter. 我同意 is neutral and safe in most situations. 你说得对 can sound slightly more personal because it praises the other person's judgment. Among friends, 没错 is very natural and friendly. If you disagree, it's often softened with 不过 (búguò - but) or 可能 (kěnéng - maybe), but this lesson focuses on agreement. Also, nodding or saying 嗯 (ǹg) can show you are listening before you agree.
One thing to watch for
Saying 我是同意 (wǒ shì tóngyì) to mean 'I agree'.
Try this instead: In Chinese, 同意 is a verb, so you do not need 是. Just say 我同意 (wǒ tóngyì). Example: A: 这个主意很好。B: 我同意。 (A: This idea is good. B: I agree.)
